Storm Damage / Ins Claims in Austin, Texas

If your roof has been impacted by a natural catastrophe such as a hail storm, heavy wind event, tornado etc. You might qualify for a complete roof replacement.

Most people have never filed a claim or simply don’t want to deal with the hassle of an insurance claim. We, as one of the most reputable Austin roofers understand the frustration and always strive to make the process as smooth as possible.

Step 1: Choose your roofing contractor first

You should always choose a roofing contractor first especially when it comes to hail claims. A professional roofing contractor can inspect your roof prior to filing a claim to insure you have sufficient damage. Often people file a claim after a storm and their claim gets denied by the insurance company due to insufficient damage.

Step 2: File a Claim

After your roof is inspected by your chosen roofing contractor and there is evidence of storm damage, then the claim process can begin. Simply call your insurance company and file a claim. They will ask you for a “date of loss” (The date of the storm). Your roofing contractor can provide you with the exact date of loss in case you were absent during that time. The adjuster assigned to your claim will contact you within 24 to 48 hours with the date and time of the inspection. It is always helpful to get the adjuster’s name and phone number for communication purposes.

Step 3: Contact your roofing contractor

Be sure to notify your roofer of the date and time of the inspection. That enables the contractor to be present and make sure you are getting proper representation.

Step 4: Summary of damage

Generally, insurance carriers will send you a summary of damage within 5 to 7 business days. Your summary of damage is the scope of loss generated by your insurance company. It contains your contact information, property measurement and all the benefits allotted to you for this claim.

Step 5: Payment

Your insurance carrier will release the proceeds in two different payments. First, Actual cash value (The amount of funds to restore your property to its original condition prior to the storm minus deductible and depreciation) then, Depreciation. (depending on the age and condition of your roof, insurance carriers depreciate a certain amount but they will release the payment after they get a job complete invoice from your roofer only if incurred) in simple terms, depreciation will be released only if you spend all the proceeds to restore your property to its original condition prior to the storm.

FAQs:

Will my rates go up if I file a claim?

Your rate won’t change due to an act of God (hail, wind, hurricane, tornado etc.) although, rates could go up regionally but never individually.

Should I get multiple quotes?

You definitely can, but when it comes to an insurance claim, it’s always best to choose your contractor based on experience and reputation rather than price; especially since your out-of-pocket exposure won’t change (By Texas insurance law, you have the right to choose your contractor and your only out of pocket exposure is your deductible) and you won’t receive all the proceeds unless you spend it.

Can I share my summary of damage with my roofer?

You absolutely can. As a matter of fact, it’s necessary to do so. Your roofer will fulfill the scope created by your insurance company. We highly suggest you send a copy of the summary of damage to your roofing contractor as soon as you get it.

My roof looks fine, why do I need to file a claim?

Hail damage can not be seen from the ground. Even on top of the roof, it takes a pair of trained eyes to distinguish it. Hail breaks the matting of your shingles causing water seepage that eventually leads to rotten decking and mold. Most insurance carriers require you to file a claim after 6 to 12 months of incurring damage therefore, it’s always best to file a claim as quickly as possible to prevent further roof and interior damage.
